Eastern Cape Wild Park Tour This tour is available throughout the year to suit your timing. Day 1 - Port Elizabeth to Schotia Guests are met at a location of their choice in Port Elizabeth for an early start after they have had their breakfast. We head straight for Addo Elephant National Park where we do our first game drive. The morning is spent searching for and viewing elephants in an area containing the world's most dense elephant population, sightings of a large variety of other wildlife are also likely. Tonight you will be staying at Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve which has a very high concentration of free roaming wildlife including a large population of lions. Check in for the afternoon/evening at Schotia Tooth & Claw safari and experience some of the best game viewing the Eastern Cape can offer. Relax over dinner and enjoy their delicious safari cuisine knowing that after coffee around the fire, your ranger will take you for a short drive to your lodge where you will be lulled to sleep by the night sounds of the African bush. You may also see a large variety of antelope, warthogs, jackal and many bird species including the Secretary bird, Kori Bustard and Jackal Buzzard to name but a few. Overnight: Schotia Day 2 - Schotia to Cradock Mountain Zebra Park Awake to the sound of birds and have a cup of tea or coffee before your ranger takes you on a morning drive. During this drive, you can search for any of the animals you did not see the night before or start to look at some of the smaller details that make the bush work. After a hearty breakfast you return to the reception area where we wave goodbye and continue on our journey in a northward direction. En route, we stop at Middleton Manor for some refreshment in this historic village. We proceed to Cradock where life started in the early 1800's, a vibrant small town with lots of historical buildings and history once again brought to life by the waters of the Orange/Fish River Water Scheme, bringing liquid gold to the farming area. Here we head for Mountain Zebra National Park where we unpack and enjoy a light lunch at our accommodation. In the late afternoon you can go on a game drive in this semi-desert environment and can see how these animals adapt to this harsh climate. Tonight you eat at the park restaurant which has a good name for it's catering. Overnight: Mountain Zebra National Park Day 3 - Mountain Zebra National Park to Graaff-Reinet After a good breakfast, we embark on a game drive through this beautiful mountainous region where you may see a large variety of antelope including the endangered Blesbok. Cheetah have recently been re-introduced into this park so there is a possibility that you could spot these beautiful cats which reportedly have had cubs. After lunch, we depart for Graaff Reinet where we will book into our accommodation. After settling in, we will drive to the awesome Valley of Desolation and experience the beauty of these majestic rock formations in the twilight of the day. Dinner will be enjoyed in town. Overnight: Graaff-Reinet Day 4 - Graaff-Reinet to Beaufort West After breakfast, we stroll around this beautiful Karoo town and admire the architecture, like the impressive Dutch Reformed Church. We enjoy a light lunch at one of the many quaint restaurants and then depart for Beaufort West. This afternoon you can stretch your legs and walk the fossil trail with many artifacts from yester-year or take one of the walking trails near the accommodation highlighting some of the plants of the area. Some bird watching would not be out of order. There should be plenty of time to relax and freshen up before supper at the restaurant. Overnight: Karoo National Park DAY 5 Beaufort West to De Rust Today, you breakfast at the park restaurant before going on a game drive up the well-engineered Klipspringer Pass to the plateau above where the views are breathtaking. You enjoy some refreshment at one of the park's picnic spots before leaving for Klaarstroom where you will enjoy a light meal at this quaint historic village. We now proceed through Meiringspoort at a leisurely pace to take in the majestic beauty of this gorge through the Swartberg Mountain range with its cape fold sandstone rock formations. You can enjoy some refreshment at the waterfall, a short walk from the road. We pass through the picturesque town of De Rust and head on to our farm stay at Thabile Lodge where you can warm-up in the gym, take an optional ride on a quad bike, stroll, do some bird watching or just sit and contemplate. Overnight: De Rust District Day 6 - De Rust to Oudtshoorn Today, we enjoy our breakfast before leaving this lovely farm and head back towards De Rust. We take one of the back roads to Cango Caves and on our way, we stop for a short walk to Rus 'n Vrede Waterfall where we enjoy the scenery and do a little bird watching. Now to our next wonder, the Cango Caves where you may do either the Discovery or the Adventure tour (for fitter, thinner people, crawling through narrow openings) which are both guided by experts. The caves are about 5.3km deep; only a portion of this is available to the public (see www.cangocaves.co.za). From here we proceed to the Cango Wildlife Ranch (entrance fee included) where we see the work being done to conserve and breed endangered species. You can enjoy a light lunch here in one of their well appointed restaurants (optional extras are available if you would like to stroke a cheetah or dive with the crocs see www.cango.co.za). Your last activity for the day is the ostrich farm where they show you all the ins and outs of ostrich farming and how these flightless giant birds live. We book in for the night where we enjoy a home cooked meal in their beautiful dining room. Overnight: Oudtshoorn Farm Stay Day 7 - Oudtshoorn to Stormsriver After a restful sleep in this rural setting, you enjoy breakfast before we head for the coast; en-route we go down the Outeniqua Pass. Halfway down the pass, we stop at a lookout to view the three other historic passes across the valley. We pass through George and head for Wilderness where we stop for a short hike on one of the Kingfisher trails where you could be fortunate to spot the Knysna Loerie, the Narina Trogon or one of the various Kingfishers. We continue on our journey along the lakes back road, joining the main road near Sedgefield; we stop for a light lunch at the Waterfront Quays in Knysna overlooking this quaint harbour. This afternoon, we visit Monkeyland which is a unique free-roaming multi-specie primate sanctuary. The rangers will track the primates down and impart interesting information about them, the forest and anything else you come across. Part of the safari is across a canopy walk which actually rises above the forest canopy for a bird's eye view of this primate paradise. Our next adventure is to drive through the Bloukrantz and Groot River passes to our final destination for the day at the quaint village of Tsitsikamma. Overnight: Stormsriver Village Day 8 - Stormsriver to Port Elizabeth We enjoy our last breakfast together before setting off. Today we visit Storms River Mouth National Park which is on the rugged coastline where this awesome river enters the sea. Here you have the option of taking a walk along the boardwalk to the swing bridge. We leave the park in time to drive through to Humansdorp and stop for lunch at the famous Chameleon Restaurant where we enjoy their tasty meal before returning to Port Elizabeth where we unfortunately must part, until we meet again.
