Cape Whale & Garden Route Tour

Day 1 - Cape Town to Hermanus

Guests are met at a location in Cape Town; from here we go to Table Mountain where you board the cable car. The Cableway takes you to the summit in under 10 minutes and the cable car's rotating floor ensures that all passengers get a 360-degree aerial view of the city. The best views of Cape Town are seen from the top of Table Mountain. If the weather does not allow us to go up Table Mountain, we will take a sight-seeing trip down the Atlantic coastline to the Cape Point Nature Reserve where the views are absolutely marvellous. Here one must be wary of the baboons that seize every opportunity to steal food and can be quite a nuisance and are considered dangerous. After a light lunch, we continue along the False Bay coast to The Strand and then on along the wild coastline to Hermanus where we overnight. Hermanus is known locally as the whale watching capital of the world and in season you are sure to get good sightings of these endangered creatures (weather permitting).

Day 2 - Hermanus

Today we rise at our leisure, enjoy a hearty breakfast before we leave to do a 2 to 3 hour nature walk (depending on the fitness of the group) in the Fernkloof Nature Reserve. Fernkloof Nature Reserve is unique in that it bounds the seaside coastal resort of Hermanus along the Kleinrivier mountain range and along the major portion of the Cliff Path abutting the Indian Ocean. It comprises of nearly 2000 hectares of mountain and coastal fynbos and as such is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of the six recognized Floral Kingdoms of the world. There is no other place on earth where so many different species can be seen growing in such close proximity. After our good exercise for the morning, we enjoy a light lunch at the beachfront near the old harbour. Now is the time for you to do some whale watching from the cliffs along the beachfront. Hermanus has the status of being the best land-based whale-watching destination in the world. Southern Right whales visit Walker Bay from June through to December and often frolic in the waves right below your feet. For those keen enough to see the whales from a boat, this can be organised at an extra cost. After a day in the sun, we return to our accommodation and relax next to the pool or a walk can be enjoyed before our delicious home cooked evening meal.
