This tour is available throughout the year to suit your timing.

Day 1 - Still Bay to Ladismith

Guests are met at a location between Stilbaai and George. From here we head over the Garcia pass for Ladismith where we enjoy a light lunch and then travel on to book in at our farm venue where we can enjoy a relaxing afternoon feeding tame sheep or goats, or do a short hike in the mountains or just relax and enjoy the bird life. The sunsets here are normally outstanding after which you can enjoy a traditional dinner.

Day 2 - Ladismith and Surrounds

Today we rise at our leisure and enjoy a hearty breakfast before we leave for a stroll through the town of Ladismith, taking in all the architectural beauty of this old village. There is an optional wine tour available here. We lunch in town and then drive through the Hoekoe Valley (the fruit basket of the area) before returning to our accommodation. In season, grapes or apricots are available for picking; otherwise a walk can be enjoyed before our delicious home cooked evening meal.

Day 3 - Ladismith to Oudtshoorn

After a quiet breakfast, we proceed on to Zoar, a mission village in a beautiful part of the area; then on to Seweweekspoort (seven weeks gorge), one of the most spectacular routes through the Swartberg Mountains (Black Mountains). This is a nature reserve and you can do some bird and flower spotting along the way. You will be in awe of the majestic cape fold mountains towering above you and its wide range of flora and fauna. We then stop for a picnic lunch and a short walk along the stream. Back on the road again we proceed through the Huisrivier (House River) pass to Calitzdorp where we visit a dried fruit and sweet factory which has been set up to empower the indigenous people and help with poverty alleviation through job creation. Calitzdorp is the mecca of Port Wines in South Africa and so we will stop and do some wine tasting before proceeding to our overnight accommodation in the Oudtshoorn area.

Day 4 - Oudtshoorn

After a leisurely breakfast and walk around on the guest farm, we proceed to a Private Nature Reserve in the Volmoed (full of hope) area where our host takes us on a guided tour of his farm. He is passionate about his farm which is in the unique position of being within three plant biomes. He will show us some of the unusual and wonderful flowers and plants there. We will have refreshments along the route. As the day comes to a close, we will enjoy a braai (barbeque) under the canopy of sweet thorn trees and listen to our host relating stories around the campfire. We return to our accommodation for a good nights sleep.

Day 5 - Oudtshoorn

Today you have the option of rising with the sparrows (about 3:30am) and experiencing the extraordinary behavior of Meerkats (Suricates) in their natural habitat under the guidance of Grant McIlrath, the renowned wildlife biologist of National Geographic fame (optional extra for whole group booked well in advance). After this wonderful experience, we return for our tasty breakfast before proceeding to the Cango Wildlife Ranch (entrance fee included) where we see the work being done to conserve and breed endangered species (optional extras are available if you would like to stroke a cheetah or dive with the crocs see www.cango.co.za). Now to our next wonder, the Cango Caves - you may do either the Discovery or the Adventure tour (for fitter thinner people, crawling through narrow openings), which are both guided by experts. The caves are about 5.3km deep; only a portion of this is available to the public (see www.cangocaves.co.za). Back to our accommodation for a wonderful meal and a restful evening.

Day 6 - Oudtshoorn to Prince Albert

Today we rise at our leisure, enjoy a hearty breakfast and then proceed to an ostrich farm where we enjoy learning about these wonderful flightless birds (the largest birds in the world). We leave Oudtshoorn with all it's wonders and proceed over the Swartberg Pass which is one of the wonders of man's engineering skills of old which was completed in 1887 by Sir Thomas Bain. We stop several times along the way to take in the rugged beauty and breathtaking vistas. We briefly pass through Prince Albert and continue to our farm stay some 25km ahead. Our hostess will treat us to a home cooked lamb roast with fresh vegetables organically grown on the farm.

Day 7 - Prince Albert

We rise in our own time for a leisurely breakfast and enjoy the tranquillity of this pristine countryside. We enjoy a tour of the farm and if you wish, you can help with some of the activities. Later, you can enjoy a walk with the possibility of seeing some of the smaller animals of the area including klipspringer, mongoose, otter and duiker, amongst others. Tonight you will be treated to another home cooked traditional meal.

Day 8 - Prince Albert to Klaarstroom

After a great breakfast, we move off to Prince Albert Town where we will have free time to take in the beauty of this quaint village, shopping, looking at all the historic houses, the water channel, lovely coffee shops and museums amongst other venues. We meet again after lunch (own account) and set off for the tiny village of Klaarstroom at the start of Meiringspoort. Tonight we relax in a historic house in a village where time has stood still for many years.

Day 9 - Klaarstroom

Today, after breakfast, we drive through Meiringspoort (gorge), which is an absolute wonder with the folding sandstone cliffs towering above. We stop at the waterfall for refreshments and then proceed on through De Rust, Oudtshoorn, the fantastic Outeniqua Pass down to George where we have a light lunch. In the afternoon we must sadly bid you farewell and drop you off at a destination of your choice between George and Still Bay.
