Day 1 - Cape Town to Hermanus

Guests are met at a location in Cape Town after breakfast; from here we go to Table Mountain where you board the cable car. The Cableway takes you to the summit in under 10 minutes and the cable car's rotating floor ensures that all passengers get a 360 degree aerial view of the city. The best views of Cape Town are seen from the top of Table Mountain. If the weather does not allow us to go up Table Mountain, we will take a sight-seeing trip down the Atlantic coastline to Cape Point Nature Reserve where the views are absolutely marvellous. Here one must be wary of the baboons that seize every opportunity to steal food. They can be quite a nuisance and are potentially dangerous. After a light lunch, we continue along the False Bay coast to The Strand and then on along the wild coastline to Hermanus where we do some whale watching from the cliffs above the old harbour. Hermanus is known locally as the whale watching capital of the world and in season you are sure to get good sightings of these endangered creatures (weather permitting). After we have booked into our accommodation, we take a drive up Rotary Drive to see the sights from high up above the town; this spot is famous for paragliding and hang-gliding because of the good updraft winds. We return to our accommodation before going out to dinner at one of the many restaurants.

Overnight: Hermanus
Meals: Lunch and Dinner

Day 2 - Hermanus to Still Bay

After a quiet breakfast, we make our way to the southern most tip of Africa; this is the point where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. The lighthouse was built in 1848 on a table mountain sandstone bank, which constitutes the coastline and today houses a museum where all the interesting facts about it can be gleaned. We leave this historic building and go up the coast to the village of Arniston which is predominantly a fishing village with a lot of character. Our next attraction is the large cave of Waenhuiskrans and from here we head inland to Malgas where we cross the Breede River on the last surviving commercial pontoon in South Africa. We continue on our journey and stop at The Blue Crane Restaurant near Heidelberg for a light lunch. The last stretch of our journey is through Riversdale to Still Bay where we book in at The Dunes which is virtually built on the beach and from where we can do some whale watching or go for a stroll along the pristine blue flag beach. Our hostess will serve us a home cooked meal when we are ready.

Overnight: Still Bay
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3 - Still Bay to Sedgefield

After breakfast, we go to the Skilpiesbaai Nature reserve on the coastal dunes and do a short walk through the protected Milkwood forest where you can see the different types of vegetation growing along this circular trail. At 11h00 we must be at the information bureau to see the feeding of the eels and to learn about their life cycle and migration. After that we go to The Matchbox to have a look through this fascinating shop. We enjoy a picnic lunch on the riverbank before leaving for Mossel Bay via the coastal road. We pass Mossel Bay and George and a few other villages and eventually arrive at Sedgefield where we will be staying tonight. Our accommodation has a fantastic view of the lagoon. We enjoy dinner in the village before we retire for the night.

Overnight: Sedgefield

Day 4 - Sedgefield to The Crags

After a scrumptious breakfast and walk on the pristine lagoon shore, we set out for Knysna where we board the ferry to Featherbed Bay on the beautiful lagoon. Here you go on a tractor driven train up the hill to the lookout points where you will see the most beautiful sights of the town, lagoon, heads and the ocean, not forgetting the possibility of seeing some of the small game found at this Nature Reserve. You make your way down from the summit by going on a guided walk through the wonderful scenery with old shipwrecks and caves on the way. At the restaurant you enjoy your lunch before returning to Knysna on the ferry. We bypass Plettenberg Bay and carry on to Monkeyland, which is a unique free roaming multi-species primate sanctuary. The rangers will track the primates down and impart interesting information about them. Part of the safari is across a canopy walk which actually rises above the forest canopy for a bird's eye view of this primate paradise. We continue to The Crags where we book into our accommodation and relax in this rural setting before we enjoy a traditional home cooked meal prepared by our host.

Overnight: The Crags

On our return we continue through the passes to Stormsriver where we visit the big tree (reportedly 800 years old and 37m tall) before enjoying a light lunch at the restaurant there. We then continue to Port Elizabeth where we book in for the night. You have free time this afternoon to laze on the beach or at the pool or even go to the Casino to waste some money. After a hearty breakfast you return to the reception area where we wave goodbye and continue on our journey in a northward direction. En route we stop at Middleton Manor for some refreshment in this historic village. We proceed to Cradock where life started in the early 1800's; a vibrant small town with lots of historical buildings and history once again brought to life by the waters of the Orange/Fish River Water Scheme bringing liquid gold to the farming area. Here we head for Mountain Zebra National Park where we unpack and enjoy a light lunch at our accommodation. In the late afternoon you can go on a game drive in this semi-desert environment; here you can see how these animals adapt to this harsh climate.
