Cape South Coast & Karoo Tour This tour is available throughout the year to suit your timing. Day 1 - George to Mossel Bay Guests are met before 09h00 at a location between Still Bay and George. From here we head for the Railway Museum and station for our magnificent train trip to Mossel Bay along the stunning coastline with it's river inlets and villages en route. While you are taking in the beautiful views you enjoy some refreshment on board the train. On arrival, you will be met at the Diaz Museum by our driver who will take you to an outlook point where you will enjoy a picnic lunch while soaking up the view (weather permitting). After lunch we proceed to The Post Office Tree and museum complex where we see a replica of the Caravelle with which Bartholemnew Diaz sailed around the Cape back in 1488. You proceed to the Guest House where you will spend the next three days where you can drink in the magnificent views of ships and boats entering and leaving port, waves lapping onto the sun drenched Santos Beach and gaze in awe at the majestic Outeniqua Mountain Range as a back drop over the expanse of water which is Mossel Bay. We depart for an enjoyable evening meal. After dinner, we return to our accommodation where we enjoy the sights over the bay by night. Overnight: Mossel Bay Day 2 - Mossel Bay to Oudtshoorn and back After a sumptuous breakfast in this well-appointed guesthouse we depart for Oudtshoorn. En route we cross the Outeniqua mountain range via the Robinson's Pass and call in at a Private Nature Reserve where you will be shown the wonders of the Karoo veld. Our host will show us some of the unusual plants and flowers and we may also be able to see porcupine or tortoise amongst others on our excursion. You will enjoy a light lunch under a canopy of Sweet Thorn trees before we depart for Cango Caves. Cango Caves are 5.3km deep and you are privileged to see only a small portion of these fantastic limestone caves with their history and charm and the finest dripstone caverns with their vast halls and towering formations. Our return trip to our accommodation is via the Outeniqua Pass with its spectacular views of the older passes winding through the same area. We bypass George and return to Mossel Bay along the old scenic route. Overnight: Mossel Bay Day 3 - Mossel Bay After enjoying a leisurely breakfast overlooking the spectacular bay, we take a short drive to The Point to see the St. Blaize lighthouse and Cave which are very historical and interesting. After enjoying the sites, we depart for Botlierskop Private Game Reserve where we enjoy lunch in their beautiful thatched restaurant perched on top of a magnificent rocky outcrop. After lunch, we head out on a 4x4 game drive where you could see rhino, giraffe, eland and bontebuck buffalo amongst many other free roaming game species on this beautiful farm. After your game drive, you might like to cool down with a swim in the sea at The Pavilion or just relax and soak up the views at our guesthouse. You can enjoy a traditional braai (barbeque) while watching the sunset over the bay. Overnight: Mossel Bay Day 4 - Mossel Bay to Sedgefield After breakfast, we set off in the direction of Sedgefield where you will spend the next two nights sleeping on the banks of Groenvlei, a wide river estuary in the lakes district of the Garden Route. On the way, we stop in Wilderness and enjoy a short hike on one of the many local nature trails where you could be lucky to see the Knysna Loerie, the shy Narina Trogon or some of the Kingfishers. After a picnic lunch, we drive to Sedgefield via the lakes back road through some of the indigenous forests. Tonight we eat at one of the town's popular restaurants before returning to our lodgings. Overnight: Sedgefield Day 5 - Sedgefield to Knysna and back This morning after breakfast, we make our way to Knysna where we board the ferry to the Featherbed Bay Nature reserve. This spectacular four-hour eco-experience includes the ferry trip, nature drive and a guided walk (optional), ending with a sumptuous buffet at their restaurant. Featherbed Nature Reserve is a prime example of eco-tourism and in order to protect the splendour of the natural beauty, access to the Reserve is controlled. Numbers are limited and visits are only permitted in the company of the Reserve's specialist guides. On our return to Knysna Quays, we will have free time to do some shopping and take in the atmosphere of this vibrant town. We are then off to Knysna Oyster Company where we enjoy oyster tasting and an early evening meal. Overnight: Sedgefield Day 6 - Sedgefield to Stormsriver Breakfast taken care of, we set off reasonably early to go on a river cruise up the beautiful Keurbooms River with it's towering cliffs, sandy beaches, indigenous forests and abundant bird life. Then on to The Crags where you enjoy a light lunch before visiting Monkeyland which is a unique free roaming multi-specie primate sanctuary. The rangers will track the primates down and impart interesting information about them, the forest and anything else you come across. Part of the safari is across a canopy walk which actually rises above the forest canopy for a bird's eye view of this primate paradise. Our next adventure is to drive through Bloukrantz and Groot River passes to our final destination for the day at the quaint village of Tsitsikamma.
