Steam Train & Game Drive We depart after breakfast and head for the Outeniqua Transport Museum where we board The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe for a scenic ride to Mossel Bay located on the Indian Ocean. The train is usually steam powered but the Railways retain the right to substitute the locomotive with a diesel unit if necessary. On our descent to the coast we cross two rivers, the Gwaiing and the Malgate which both offer beautiful views. On reaching the coast we pass the seaside resort of Glentana where the view of the waves crashing on the coast is quite spectacular. After going through a deep cutting, the train goes through the only tunnel on the journey. On exiting the tunnel one has a view of the whole coastline all the way to St. Blaize Lighthouse in the distance. We then pass through the villages of Groot Brak, Klein Brak and Hartenbos where the railways workshops which carry out maintenenance on this train can be seen. The last leg of the trip is through Voorbaai and De Bakke to the end of the line at Santos Beach. Here we are met again by our driver and taken to lunch at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve where we enjoy a fantastic meal at their picturesque restaurant which is perched on top of a rocky ledge overlooking the river below. Your experience starts at the restaurant where the well-trained and knowledgeable guides will welcome you and introduce you to true South African hospitality and is followed by an exhilarating 3 hour guided game drive during which you have an excellent chance of experiencing close encounters with rhinoceros, lions, buffalo, giraffe, rare black impala and many more. Do not forget to bring a jacket on the game drive as temperatures can change rather suddenly in this area especially in the open vehicle. After our game drive it will be time to head home once again, you will be dropped off where you alighted or at a place of your choice between George and Still Bay. Cost R1,350.00 per person sharing based on 4 passengers travelling together. |
